The Position
The Senior Director of Meaningful Day & Employment is responsible for the oversight of all services provided through community development and employment. The primary focus is to increase employment outcomes and community engagement of people with disabilities as an Employment First organization and uses the principles of Customized Employment. This leadership position will be an active part of organizational change moving from a center-based service to fully community based and aligning all services and practices with the Maryland Developmental Disabilities Administration Transformation initiative. This position requires a strong commitment to the principles of self-determination through the practical application of Person-Centered Thinking and Planning. This position will provide daily support to all department staff and direct supervision to Program Managers and PCP Specialists.
The Senior Director of Meaningful Day & Employment reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The position develops, implements, and manages a comprehensive set of support services for approximately 120 individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Key Responsibilities
The Senior Director of Meaningful Day & Employment will be responsible for developing and administering programs, supervising staff and transitioning the program from traditional day habilitation services to community-based, meaningful day services. including paid community employment, customized employment, business ownership, or a mix of community, employment, volunteerism, and activities.
The Senior Director is responsible for creating an atmosphere that provides quality services and clear expectations for all employees related to Ardmore’s mission. The Senior Director implements the philosophy, policy, procedures, systems, and strategic goals set by the CEO while maximizing the highest level of customer service to the community, families, persons receiving services, and external organizations.
Other key responsibilities include to:
- Create and maintain a professional network that will enhance community-building for people in services and the organization.
- Promote the ongoing training and skill development of the Community Development and Employment team, strengthening the ability of the community development and employment services department to live out organization’s mission of empowering people with disabilities.
- Conduct regular and ongoing evaluation of training needs in collaboration with the training specialist department, develop training as needed, and ensure training in all critical areas.
- Maintain lines of open communication with people served, their families and other team members.
- Partner with community resources. Convey the organization’s philosophy, policies, and belief in partnerships to achieve shared expectations.
- Collaborate with team members to support the new team infrastructure in community day services.
- Provide oversight to the team in recruiting, hiring, training, and provide support and resources to all employees, consultants, vendors and volunteers working for the Day and Employment programs.
- Provide back-up support to Managers, including support with staff supervision, payroll, data tracking and other day-to-day operational supports to ensure quality service delivery.
- Supervise and evaluate direct reports.
- Continuously maintain an approach that involves employees to improve all processes. Supervise a team of Person-Centered Specialists to assure that reliable data on personal outcomes, individual program plans, attendance, progress, services, quality improvement measures, and billing information are recorded, submitted, and/or filed, as required.
- Assist in monitoring and projecting monthly and annual departmental budgets to ensure financial stability.
- Involve direct support staff, families and people receiving services in leadership roles related to quality improvement, planning, and staff development programs.
- Ensure that the delivery of services exceeds the expectations of the person supported, their family members, the Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA), the Office of Health Care Quality (OHCQ), Division of Rehabilitation Services (DORS), and other stakeholders.
- Maintain a working knowledge of current local, State, and Federal regulations. Assist in ensuring full program participation in external and internal program evaluations and compliance with regulatory agencies, funding sources, and accreditation standards of excellence.
- Create and maintain positive public relations by being an enthusiastic ambassador for Ardmore. Be an active advocate and liaison with community members and organizations. Market the programs and expand services offered in response to community and individual need.
Experience and Attributes
The Director will be a strategic thinker who operates in a collaborative manner and is highly organized. Attention to detail and the ability to learn systems and technology quickly is beneficial. The following are the expected qualifications for the Senior Director of Meaningful Day & Employment:
- 5+ years of progressively responsible senior leadership experience including managing and developing teams
- Supervisory experience with a working knowledge of Community Development and Employment services
- Knowledgeable on the DDA service system, including Employment and Meaningful Day service delivery
- Strategic and critical thinker who will contribute to the development and implementation of operations to achieve the organization’s vision
- Expertise in communications both internally and externally
- Strong leadership, problem solving, and collaboration skills
- Experience with creating and maintaining partnerships with businesses, partners and organizations within the community
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Services or related field; Master’s preferred
Additional requirements include providing proof of US citizenship or legal immigration status, an acceptable criminal background check, able to pass a drug screening (random and scheduled), and being fully vaccinated for COVID. The base salary range for this position is $95K – $110K.

The Position
The Director of Marketing & Public Relations will build and execute communications strategies to support the strategic growth of The Arc and its subsidiaries. The Director of Marketing & Public Relations will work with key stakeholders internally and externally to elevate The Arc’s public profile. This position will collaborate with and provide hands on communications support to key leaders and subject matter experts across the organization. In partnership with the President & CEO and Vice President of Advancement, this role will serve as the official spokesperson for The Arc. The Director of Marketing & Public Relations will be a member of the Leadership Council.
Roles and Responsibilities
The Director of Marketing & Public Relations will report to the Vice President of Advancement. This position is full-time in-office at The Arc’s headquarters in Linthicum, MD and some nights and weekend hours will be required based on the organization’s needs. The Director will also:
- With the Digital Communications Manager and the Editorial Content Writer, develop and maintain an integrated editorial calendar that supports communications strategies for both The Arc and Chesapeake Neighbors.
- Create compelling content that transforms complex data into a simple, visual story that ultimately influences decision makers.
- Work collaboratively with the Vice President of Advancement, the External Relations team, and relevant stakeholders to execute communications strategies and develop campaigns and messaging that reaches and influences internal and external target audiences and supports organizational strategic goals.
- Project manage key campaigns working relevant internal and external stakeholders to deliver assets on time, and on-budget.
- Evaluate the success of campaigns and communications channels and make strategic recommendations for improvement.
- Act as the organizational brand gatekeeper, and partner closely with key leaders throughout the organization to ensure the integrity of one voice and message.
- Support organizational graphic design needs and manage external design consultant(s).
- Elevate The Arc’s public profile in the region through a combination of key articles, feature stories, editorials, and awards with a target of one award application and key story per month.
- Serve as The Arc’s primary media contact; Develop and maintain strong relationships with local and regional media.
- Facilitate writing, editing, and pitching of news releases, media alerts, and relevant communications.
- Manage and coach assigned employees and consultants.
Other Functions:
- Keep up to date on current communications trends in the disability and nonprofit fields through professional development and community/civic involvement.
- Support and collaborate with key leaders and the Chief of Staff on public policy and advocacy efforts.
- Assist in engagement activities and organizational events.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Experience and Attributes
- Bachelor’s degree in English, communications, marketing, or related field required; Master’s degree is a plus
- Five years of communication and organizational writing experience with deep knowledge in communications; specifically, messaging, social media. and marketing strategies are required.
- Natural storyteller with excellent speaking, writing, and editing skills; Ability to easily distill messages into believable, actionable content
- Deep communications expertise that and spans both external (stakeholder, influencer, stakeholder) and internal disciplines
- Strong business knowledge with a demonstrated ability to understand business strategy and how to use communications to drive that strategy
- Demonstrated ability to quickly build trust and influence with leaders and collaborators at all levels
- Ability to work autonomously, in ambiguous situations with little direction, running toward problems without being asked; solutions oriented.
- Ability to remain flexible, calm under pressure and adaptive to change as priorities shift, being a model and resource for employees
- Experience working across cultural, geographic, and programmatic lines to positively support person(s) served
Strong computer skills including proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Publisher), WordPress, social media (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter); knowledge of CRM databases preferred
The salary for this position is $95K per year. The Arc offers a competitive total rewards package. The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday during The Arc office hours with occasional night and weekend meeting or events. This position is eligible for periodic telework.

The Position
The Senior Director of Self-Directed Services will provide executive project management and leadership for The Arc’s Self-Directed Services. The VP will be the lead contract manager and liaison with Maryland Department of Health (MDH) and other key funders, consultants, and stakeholders. The VP is responsible for evaluating and ensuring that The Arc maintains compliance with contract requirements, MDH and other regulations, and financial management best practices. The VP will focus on quality systems to improve services in the areas of stakeholder engagement and customer satisfaction. The VP will approach the work with a cross-functional (department, organization, and community) mindset. The VP will be a member of the Executive Leadership Team and Leadership Council.
Roles and Responsibilities
The Senior Director of Self-Directed Services will provide effective executive project management and leadership for Self-Directed Services aligned to contract requirements and customer expectations. In addition, the VP will:
- Support the business strategy and scalability of financial management for people with disabilities.
- Act as a primary liaison with the Maryland Department of Health and other funders; partner with the President & CEO and External Relations to represent The Arc with external constituency groups, including community, governmental, and private organizations.
- With the Chief Program Officer, execute organizational strategies and systems to ensure quality and compliance with The Arc’s FMCS contract.
- Work in collaboration with the Controller for Self-Directed Services and the Goldin Group to ensure compliance and customer-support related payroll and payment processing, financial reporting, and Medicaid billing practices.
- In partnership with the CFO and corporate Finance team, ensure Medicaid billing processes and practices are adhered to, aligned to contract requirements, and all billing is completed and prepared for billing on time.
- In partnership with the Goldin Group, lead a high performing team of department heads by further developing and implementing recruitment, training, and retention strategies.
- With External Relations, and aligned with service contract(s), manage Self-Directed Services communications and stakeholder engagement.
- With the Director of Corporate Compliance, maintain compliance with all contract(s), regulatory, and licensing requirements; ensure that Self-Directed Services operate consistently and ethically within the mission and values of The Arc.
- Prepare and submit an annual operational budget to the President & CEO and the CFO for review and approval, manage effectively within this budget, and report accurately on progress made and challenges encountered.
- Provide programmatic leadership and input for all strategic planning processes.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory, licensing, and accreditation requirements by partnering with external agencies and educating and holding all Self-Directed Services team members accountable for compliance with regulations and procedures.
- Manage and coach employees and consultants who are both directly and indirectly assigned.
- Support the development of organizational policies, procedures, and practices.
- When requested, conduct research, prepare speeches, presentations, and talking points for the President & CEO and other senior executives on an array of topics and for a breadth of constituencies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Experience and Attributes
- Bachelor’s degree in a human service or business administration field and five years of progressive leadership experience in self-direction for people with disabilities or related services and experience scaling services is required; Masters’ degree in business or related field and at least three years of executive level leadership is preferred
- Past experience in contract management with a state or federal agency is required
- Excellent oral and written communications; strong interpersonal skills with the ability to manage positive communication in difficult situations and the ability to provide candid/constructive feedback
- Strong project management experience; PMP or similar professional project management certification is a plus
- Demonstrated track record of performance accountability; experience managing remote teams is a plus
- Ability to work autonomously, in ambiguous situations with little direction; running toward problems without being asked; solutions oriented
- Ability to remain flexible, calm under pressure, and adaptive to change as priorities shift; being a model and resource for team members
- Ability to exercise initiative, think creatively in the improvement of processes, and drive results
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse personalities and stakeholder/employee populations
- Ability to work well under pressure in an ever-changing environment
- Must be proficient with basic data-analysis tools and techniques, as well as computer programs such as the Microsoft Office suite
The salary for this position is $120K per year. The Arc offers a competitive total rewards package. This position is eligible for periodic telework after the initial 90 days of employment.
